A teenage mother is now in the dock after crushing her newborn baby’s skull and stuffing cotton balls into his mouth, according to the Daily Mail.
The 15-year-old girl, who faces a minimum of 12 years in prison, gave birth quietly in her parents’ basement because she didn’t want to disturb them, the Daily Mail reported.
Last week, Paris Mayo, now 19, was charged with murdering her newborn baby in March 2019.
Described as a ‘vulnerable person’ and ‘unsupported by those around her’, the court heard how Mayo had a terrifying and difficult delivery but was told she did not cry for fear of upsetting her parents. Daily Mail.
The teenager, who said she didn’t know she was pregnant, assaulted the child, leaving him with effects similar to those seen in a car accident.
Although the initial attack, which allegedly involved a kick to the child’s head, caused severe damage, he survived.
Judge Carnham said she decided she was going to kill him. So she put five pieces of cotton in his mouth, two of which were buried deep in his throat.
Mayo put the newborn’s lifeless body in a bag and left it on their doorstep before heading upstairs to bed, the Daily Mail reports.
The baby’s human remains were discovered the next morning by Mayo’s mother, who called 911.
Mayo said she didn’t know she was pregnant and the baby died at birth.
The young woman, who sobbed as she was brought back to her cell, will serve at least 12 years before being considered for parole.
