The Simpsons have done it again.
The cartoon appeared to predict Vice President Kamala Harris’ run for the Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race over the weekend.
Even a writer from the show addressed the coincidence on social media.
In a 2000 episode of the sitcom “Bart to the Future,” Lisa Simpson becomes the first female president of the United States. She wears the same purple outfit Harris wore to her 2021 inauguration, including the pearl necklace and earrings.
Back-to-back photos of Lisa and Harris, 59, went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday after the massive shakeup on the Democratic presidential ticket.
“The Simpsons as a prophetic figure has become one of the most enduring mysteries of our time!” One fan I tweeted.
“It’s alarming how often these predictions are true,” another person said.
The show’s screenwriter, Al Jean, also tweeted the adorable photo.
“The Simpsons family predictions that I am proud to be a part of” books.
The show, created by Matt Groening, is known for predicting future events, including the presidency of Donald Trump.
In the same episode, President Lisa said, “We inherited a major budget crisis from President Trump.”
Groening, 70, gave a speech on the show in which he predicted Trump, 78, would take the White House in a 2016 interview. With the Guardian.
“We predicted he would be president in 2000 — but [Trump] “That was, of course, the most ridiculous name we could imagine at the time, and that still holds true. It’s beyond ridiculous,” he said.
The show also correctly predicted the Capitol riots, the Game of Thrones finale, the coronavirus pandemic, and more.
In a 1996 episode, titled “Lisa the Idol Smasher,” Lisa is depicted being shot and killed instantly while standing on the roof of a building, in a scene eerily similar to the assassination attempt on Trump earlier this month.
The episode was pulled from broadcast in the UK the day after the former president was shot during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Biden, 81, dropped out of the 2024 presidential race after his poor performance in the June 27 debate. Democrats were worried that the incumbent president would suffer a landslide defeat in November.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” Biden wrote in a letter to “my fellow Americans” on Sunday.
