“Twisters” has made a whopping $80.5 million at the box office, but one of the biggest talking points on social media is something that wasn’t included in the movie. Footage from the film showing stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell filming a sexy scene in which their characters share a passionate kiss surfaced in the days leading up to “Twisters,” but fans were quickly shocked that the kiss wasn’t included in the movie version.
“I think it’s a note from Spielberg, isn’t it?” Edgar Jones Collider said Regarding the cut kiss, he revealed that executive producer Steven Spielberg chose not to show the kiss in the film. “I think that keeps the film from feeling too clichéd, actually. I think there’s something really great about feeling like there’s a continuation. This isn’t the end of their story. They’re united by their shared passion for something.”
“I also think this movie is not about finding love,” Powell added. Joint interview“It brings Kate back to what she loves, which is chasing storms. And that’s what happens at the end of the movie. They share that thing, and her passion is renewed, and her sense of home is renewed.”
“I feel like the kiss wouldn’t be the right thing to do at the end of the movie,” Powell concluded. “That’s a good note for Spielberg. That’s why this kid is still in this game. It’s amazing.”
Spielberg executive produced “Twisters” through his production company Amblin, which was also behind the original “Twister” in 1996. The new film, which is being billed as a standalone sequel because it takes place in the same universe as “Twister” but does not feature any of the same characters, is directed by “Minari” Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung.
In addition to its domestic debut of $80.5 million, “Twisters” continued its international run this week with $27.1 million from 76 foreign countries. Globally, the film has grossed $123.2 million to date. The film stars Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney and Sasha Lane.
“Twisters” is now showing in theaters nationwide.
