Sony's PS5 Pro is up to three times faster, and could arrive in holiday 2024

Sony's PS5 Pro is up to three times faster, and could arrive in holiday 2024

Sony is said to be working on a PlayStation 5 Pro model that could feature a much more powerful GPU and up to three times faster than current PS5 models. YouTuber Moore's law is dead It claims to have had access to the technical overview document for the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, and now Tom Henderson in Indoor games Reports indicate that the leaked specifications are accurate and that the console is currently scheduled for release during the 2024 holiday period.

Screenshots from the technical document include a reference to 67 teraflops of 16-bit floating point arithmetic, which amounts to about 33.5 teraflops of single-precision arithmetic. This is said to result in a 45 percent performance improvement over the PS5. The current PS5 is a 10.28 teraflops console, so tripling that would be a significant performance increase on the GPU side alone. The PS5 Pro may offer up to 3x ray tracing performance as well (“x4 in some cases”), Henderson reports.

The documents, posted on Sony's developer portal, also mention PlayStation Spectral Supersolution (PSSR). This is rumored to use PlayStation's machine learning to upscale the image similar to Nvidia's DLSS or AMD's FSR. This may include upscaling to 8K resolution in future releases and will help improve ray tracing performance on the rumored PS5 Pro.

While More Dead Law hasn't always been the most reliable source for console leaks, Henderson reports that Sony's own first-party studios have been testing PS5 Pro development kits since September, with third parties potentially arriving in January. Henderson Previously mentioned Last year, the PS5 Pro was planned with a target release date of November 2024. It appears that Sony may be on the cusp of achieving that ambitious timeframe.
