Bethesda has confirmed performance targets for Starfield on Xbox consoles. In an interview with IGNTodd Howard shared that the game is targeting 4K/30FPS on Xbox Xbox XAnd 1440p / 30fps on xbox s.
Howard explained that the team did not want to “sacrific any” of the game’s “huge, open world” fidelity when it came to Starfield’s frame rate on Xbox.
“I think it wouldn’t come as a surprise, given our previous matches, what we’re aiming for…”
“It’s always these huge, open, full-dynamic, hyper-detail worlds where anything can happen. And we want to do that. It’s 4K on the X. It’s 1440 on the S. We lock it at 30, because we want that fidelity, we want all that stuff. We don’t want to.” sacrifice any of them.”
The designer went on to mention that the team had run Starfield at more than 30fps during development, but wanted frame rate-locking consistency — which means the game apparently can’t hit the locked 60 on console.
“Fortunately on this one we’ve managed to do great. It’s often higher than that. Sometimes it’s 60. But on consoles, we lock it because we like consistency, where you don’t even think about it. And we need that high because it’s in Our games, really anything can happen.”
At the time of writing, no performance mode has been mentioned, so it looks like we’ll be playing this mode at 30fps on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
