Teen shot and injured in hide-and-seek game

Teen shot and injured in hide-and-seek game

(Houston) A teenage girl was shot in the head by a shadowy figure on her property while children were playing hide-and-seek in South America, local police said.

The incident happened Sunday in Starks, Louisiana, near the Texas border, the Calcasieu County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday.

Officers found a 14-year-old girl “suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.” She was taken to hospital with “non-life threatening injuries”.

Investigators learned that several youths were “playing hide-and-seek in the neighborhood and hiding on a neighbor’s property,” police said.

Questioned by investigators, David Doyle explained that he “saw shadows outside his house” and went inside to get his gun.

The 58-year-old man then “went back outside and noticed people running off his property, at which point he began shooting at them, hitting the girl unawares,” the sheriff’s office said.

He was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts, including aggravated assault with a weapon.

The news is part of the latest tragic series of mundane interactions in the United States that have broken down in blood.

In April, a 20-year-old woman in New York state was fatally shot after she pulled into the driveway of a private home.

That same month, in Texas, when a man tried to open his car door, one of them opened fire on cheerleaders, mistaking it for his own vehicle. And in Missouri, a young black man was shot and seriously injured after walking into the wrong house.
