Samsung is currently going ahead with its latest flagship launch but the rumors about its next flagship devices are already invading our mind space. With the Galaxy Z Fold 5 launching in the second half of the year, the latest report claims that Samsung is already putting its new design to the test.
according to electricitySamsung is preparing to put its new hinge design through a durability test. The report states that Samsung is “expected to perform a fold test of 200,000 basic times and a maximum of 300,000 times within the next month.” It is said that the test will start this week.
The ability to withstand 200,000 folds seems pretty standard for foldable devices now, and it’s the same threshold that Samsung set on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Some folds from OPPO and Xiaomi have been tested to withstand more folds – up to 400,000 – but even that number should be At least enough to last several years barring other wear and tear.
Although the 200,000 number has not changed for Samsung over the past two generations, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to feature a different hinge design than what Samsung is used to. Rumors suggest that the company will adopt a new waterdrop hinge design, something most other foldable phones have already implemented. This should result in a less noticeable crease and help Samsung achieve a thinner design with a phone that can close completely when folded without a visible gap.
Samsung Display demonstrated these benefits at CES 2023, showing off a phone that folds in and out. This has led many to speculate that Sawantsooking will shake things up a bit this year with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
According to The Elec, the new hinge design may also allow Samsung to adopt a single digitizer in the phone instead of two separate ones, and the company plans to test the reliability of this new approach.
Unfortunately, this change may also come with a compromise — another generic without a built-in S Pen. Samsung sells the accessory separately, but many believe the company should adopt a Galaxy Note-style S Pen housing to take full advantage of the screen real estate. Maybe we’ll have better luck with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 sets the standard for foldable phones, thanks to its rugged, water-resistant design, gorgeous displays, and improved software. It also supports S Pen input to improve productivity when using the large internal screen.
