NEW YORK – While the Mets were looking forward to a final round of Eastern National League Heading, they find both the Braves and local weather patterns blocking their path.
The series’ opening game Monday against the Nationals was postponed due to steady rain that fell across the tri-state region throughout the afternoon and evening. Teams plan to make up the game as part of a double-header for a single entry on Tuesday starting at 4:10 p.m. ET.
Double-header Carlos Carrasco and Taiguan Walker will start in some standings for the Mets, who entered the week needing to win all three games against the Nationals to stand a chance of winning the NL East title. It remains to be seen if the Mets will be able to play both games on Tuesday, given continued rain in the forecast. But they will try. Besides their dwindling league title hopes, the Mets still have plenty of reasons to enter the field, including keeping players steady ahead of Friday’s Wild Card Series, and watching Jeff McNeil run for the NL batting title.
Assuming the Mets lose the division race, Jacob Degrom and Max Scherzer line up to start Game 1 and 2 of the Wild Card Series at Citi Field against Padres or Velez. Singles tickets for those and other potential home games will go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET.
