Season four wrapped up with a second volume released on Friday (July 1), and viewers were worried that their favorite character wouldn’t appear alive.

There are certainly deaths. In episode eight, Matthew Modine’s Doctor Martin Brenner appears to have met his maker, after initially believing he was dead in season one.

But death in Episode IX is what impressed fans: Eddie Monson (Joseph Quinn).

Although only presented in the fourth season of the show, Eddie made a strong impression on viewers. Fans expressed their grief on social media for his sacrifice for the fictional city of Hawkins.

Fans are particularly moved by the fact that the Hawkins residents have stalked Eddie throughout the season, believing him to be responsible for the Vicna murders.

A witch was directed against the character, which didn’t stop him from dying to save everyone – and what’s worse, his fellow residents don’t know about it.

“Eddy died protecting a town that will remember him as a killer,” one fan wrote, adding another, “My man risked his life for a town that pulled his name through DIRT.”

One fan said, “Nah Eddie wasn’t worth going out for a town that hates him.”

Meanwhile, another viewer added: “It is tragic that Eddie died to save the city and even after that, people still blame him for everything that happened. They will never know about his sacrifice, he will only be remembered as a murderer.”
