A massive fire broke out in central Moscow

A major fire broke out Sunday at a large warehouse in central Moscow, near three train stations that connect the Russian capital to several major cities in the country, including St. Petersburg (northwest), the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced.

Black smoke clouds rose into the sky, contrasting with the white of the snow-covered black rocks in front of the nearby Yaroslavl, Leningradsky and Kazansky stations, according to images broadcast by Russian television.

Trains from these stations connect the Russian capital with St. Petersburg (northwest), Kazan (700 km east of Moscow) and Vladivostok (far east).

A statement from the Ministry of Emergency Situations said that the fire broke out in the afternoon in a two-storey brick warehouse.

According to the same source, the fire spread over an area of ​​2,500 square meters of the building.

The ministry said in a telegram that three helicopters, a fire train and 80 rescue personnel were sent to the scene to put out the fire.

For its part, the Russian Railways (RZD) assured that the fire “does not threaten passengers and does not affect the operation of trains,” public news agency RIA Novosti reported.
