Yellowstone National Park: Bison stabs woman in chest

Yellowstone National Park: Bison stabs woman in chest

A bison in Yellowstone National Park, USA, jumped on a woman visiting a wildlife sanctuary and mauled her chest, the New York Post reported.

The Arizona tourist was walking with another person in front of the Lake Lodge Cabins hotel when he saw two bison, according to a National Park Service news release.

After seeing the wild animals, the 47-year-old chose to turn back, but one of the bison was not fast enough and it eventually mauled her.

Remember that bison can run three times faster than humans.

The victim suffered serious injuries to his chest and abdomen. His condition is still unknown after being airlifted to a hospital, according to the New York Times.

“Animals in Yellowstone National Park are wild and dangerous when approached,” the National Park Service said in a statement. “When an animal is near a campsite, trail, boardwalk, parking lot or landscaped area, it must be given space.”

Visitors are recommended to stay no more than 35 meters from bison, as well as at least 100 meters from large animals such as elk and bears and wolves found in the park.

“Each year regrettable accidents occur as people get too close to these massive animals,” the agency explained.
