Despite an investigation by the Coast Guard and the FBI, the culprit was never found.

Until several police officers return to the file and discover an unused resource, a hair without a bulb.

Austria Forensics Laboratory was able to identify the DNA. An expert in genealogy was later able to connect the clue to the Lanov surname.

During the facts Robert J. An investigator discovered that Lanov was a neighbor of the girl, the New York Times reports.

In 1998, the man was convicted of possession of pornography with a minor under 16, distribution of child pornography and sexual intercourse.

On the sex offender registry, he spent more than 20 years in prison in Nevada.

The 70-year-old is being held in custody in Reno, awaiting extradition to the “Golden State.”
