1 Alabama is on surprise alert as Crimson Tide tied Texas 10-10 in the first half in a wild game in Austin. Longhorns had the opportunity to take the lead in the first half, but they missed a 20-yard field goal as the final seconds lapped the clock.
The big story today is Texas quarterback Queen Ewers, who was knocked out at the end of the first quarter with an apparent upper body injury following a late tackle from Alabama quarterback Dallas Turner. Before exiting, Ewers completed 9 of 12 passes for a 134-yard pass. In relief, Hudson’s card added 59 yards in six passing attempts.
That might pose a risk to the Longhorns, but Alabama has kept them in the game beyond uncharacteristically undisciplined gameplay. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has 78 yards, but only 14 yards made it to the receivers, who dropped several easy passes to stop the offense. In addition, Crimson Tide committed 11 first-half penalties, with all-American linebacker Will Anderson taking three penalties on his own, the most first-half penalty kicks since 2010. Crimson Tide maxed out at 11. Penalties in one game last season, both came in road games.
Alabama hasn’t lost a non-conference game since ULM in 2007, Nick Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa… But Crimson Tide has also not played a true non-conference road game since 2011.
