An Israeli attack on a school in Deir al-Bala killed 30 people on Saturday and an operation in Khan Younis killed 170 Palestinians in six days, sources in the Gaza Strip said, in the 10th month of the war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to destroy Hamas after the Palestinian Islamist movement’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, which triggered the war.

He has just finished a US meeting with Donald Trump, who warned of “major wars in the Middle East and World War III” if he does not win the presidential election in November.

The Israeli military offensive was launched in response to the Oct. 7 attack, despite the high human toll — tens of thousands of deaths according to the Hamas health ministry — and a humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

“The Khadija school, which housed a makeshift medical unit in the Deir al-Balah area, was targeted (by the strike) leaving 30 martyrs and more than 100 wounded,” Hamas said in a statement.

The Israeli military said it carried out an operation at the school in Deir al-Bala, in the heart of the Gaza Strip, targeting “terrorists” operating there.

    Fatal operation in Khan Yunis

In the south of the Palestinian territories, around 170 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds wounded since the new Israeli operation began on Monday in Khan Yunis, civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP.

Nearly 182,000 Palestinians have left Khan Yunis since Monday.

The army expanded its operations in Khan Younis, southern Gaza’s largest city, after rockets were fired at Israel from the area.

He called on residents of several neighborhoods in the city to evacuate further west to al-Mawazi, an area he described as a “humanitarian zone.” But Palestinians fear going there, an area already the target of Israeli bombings.

According to AFP pictures, wounded and bodies were taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after a deadly strike, some at arm’s length, others in cars or carts.

In recent months, the army has returned to several parts of the Palestinian Territory, where it said it had driven out Hamas.

On October 7, Hamas commandos infiltrated southern Israel from Gaza, killing 1,197 people, the majority civilians, according to official Israeli data. Of the 251 abducted during the attack, 111 are still being held in Gaza, and 39 of them have been killed, the military said.

According to data from the Health Ministry of the Hamas-led Gaza government, at least 39,258 people have died following aerial and tank bombardments and ground attacks.

The talks are expected to take place on Sunday

According to the United Nations, the Palestinian Territory, which has been besieged by Israel since October 9 and has about 2.4 million people, is threatened by famine.

“I am forced to watch my child die of hunger”: Muhannad Hadi, the UN humanitarian coordinator for the Middle East, spoke at the Security Council on Friday for the women and children of Gaza, describing a situation that “haunts us all”. Generations. He spoke of the plight of Palestinians he met in Deir al-Bala on July 9.

Al-Qahera news reports that a meeting of representatives of mediators Egypt, the United States and Qatar with the head of Israeli intelligence is scheduled for Sunday in Rome, after several failed talks on the release of the hostages. , media outlets close to Egyptian intelligence.

Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States and the European Union, seized power in Gaza in 2007, and Mr. It accuses Netanyahu of blocking any deal.

The Hostage Families Forum, which represents relatives held in Gaza, pointed the finger at Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, condemning efforts to free the relatives as “sabotage”.
