A teenager suspected of killing four college students in a small western US college town was arrested Friday and charged with “murder,” local authorities said.

Brian Kohberger, 28, was arrested in Pennsylvania, 4,000 kilometers from the small town of Moscow, Idaho, at a crime scene on November 13 that has fueled much speculation.

A graduate of Washington State University, the suspect was staying in Pullman, a ten-minute drive from Moscow, local police chief James Fry told a news conference.

Brian Kohberger holds a doctorate in criminology and criminal law, according to the university’s website.

He was charged with “murder” and “felony trespassing,” but the court case remains under seal pending his transfer to Idaho, said attorney Bill Thompson.

For this reason, both men declined to invoke a possible motive and explain how investigators got to him.

James Fry said a car was found at the scene of the crime and had been searched for weeks.

According to US media, police managed to link Brian Kohberger to the vehicle and found traces of his DNA at the crime scene.

Seven weeks ago, four stabbed bodies were found in an apartment in the small university town of Moscow.

These are four students with no history: Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mohan – both 21 -, Chana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin – each 20 and a couple.

They didn’t wake up the other two roommates, who appeared to have been killed in their sleep.

The investigation, which is heavily followed in the media and social networks, seems to have stalled for a long time, with the police providing their information at the drop of a hat.

The police chief admitted on Friday that this may have created “frustration”. But giving more details “could have alerted the suspect to our progress,” he added.
