    Computer hacking of auto dealer software is the latest digital attack

    Another cyberattack on software used by thousands of car dealerships is affecting CDK Global.

    The group that says it hacked software company CDK Global is demanding tens of millions of dollars in ransom, Bloomberg reported.

    CDK, which provides software to North American car dealerships, intends to pay the ransom but discussions are subject to change, according to the company. Bloomberg report Citing a person familiar with the situation.

    The source said the group behind the hack is believed to be based in Eastern Europe, Bloomberg reported.

    USA TODAY has reached out to CDK Global for comment.

    CDK cyber outage marks third straight day of impacting software management tools and the heart of operations at auto dealerships across the US

    CDK spokeswoman Lisa Feeney said the company shut down most of its systems “out of an abundance of caution” for customers on Wednesday. The company said it restored some systems later that afternoon, before shutting them down again when an additional cyberattack occurred, according to a letter sent to customers.

    “Out of an abundance of caution and to protect our customers, we are once again proactively shutting down most of our systems,” the message read. “We are currently assessing the overall impact and consulting with external experts.”

    The company did not share an estimated time frame for when the systems will be back up. Dealers continued to report issues with CDK systems on Friday.

    Finney did not respond to questions about how many dealers were affected, but CDK’s website says the company is working with more than… 15,000 retail locations Across North America.
