    Mysterious toxic powder alert in Colombia: A man killed his ex-girlfriend in a shopping center before committing suicide with an undetermined substance.

    The incident, reported Thursday by local authorities, occurred Wednesday at a shopping center in the municipality of Sabaneta (northwest), near the city of Medellin.

    His ex-girlfriend Maryori Muñoz, 40, went to the beauty salon she ran in the mall after months of “harassment” against Luis Carlos Aguirre, 67, a security official said.

    The source told national radio that the victim left her workplace to meet her ex-colleague and “called for help two minutes later”.

    Chemically contaminated mall sites were closed.

    Femicide is common in Colombia, where 100 cases were recorded in 2022, according to the forensic authority. The Colombian Monitor for Femicide, a civil society initiative, put the number at 612 in the same year.
