At least three people were killed Wednesday in a shooting at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, South America, and local police said the suspect was dead.
“We can confirm that four people, including the shooter, are dead,” city police said on Twitter in a shootout at the site of St. Francis Hospital.
She had previously stated that she had intervened “just before noon” in a hospital building “for a man armed with a gun” on the spot.
“Police are currently checking every room in the building to rule out any threats,” he added in the statement, referring to “multiple injuries”.
City Councilman Jaime Fowler told local television that the shooter had committed suicide. “Three innocent spectators lost their lives,” he added.
U.S. President Joe Biden has been notified of the shooting, the White House said, adding that it was closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance to local authorities.
The shooting comes a week after an 18-year-old man killed 19 children and two teachers in a school massacre in Wolverhampton, Texas.
In the United States, shootings in public places are a recurring theme, and governments that have come to power so far have been powerless to stop it.
