    British actor Robbie Coltrane, known worldwide for his role as the half-giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, has died at the age of 72, his agent announced Friday.

    Robbie Coltrane, whose real name was Anthony Robert McMillan, died Friday at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Scotland, his agent Belinda Wright said, thanking the facility’s caregivers.

    The author of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling praised her “incredible talent” on Twitter. “I was lucky enough to know him, work with him and laugh until I cried with him,” she said.

    The Scottish-born actor was adored by children around the world for his portrayal of the bushy-bearded, clumsy half-giant who helps young wizard Harry Potter and his friends on their adventures at wizarding school. Hogwarts.
