(Miami) The investigation into the murder of young traveler KP Petito, who has been in the US for weeks, entered a decisive phase on Wednesday. A Florida natural reserve.
“Investigators found human remains with a bag belonging to Brian Laundry and personal belongings such as a notebook” in an area that was “under water recently,” said Michael McPherson, the federal police’s special agent.
He did not specify to whom these “human remains” belonged. Brian Laundry is considered an “interested person” in the investigation of KP Petito, who was actively sought and killed at the age of 22. His girlfriend’s body was found near Grand Dayton National Park in Wyoming.
“I know you have a lot of questions, but we still don’t have all the answers,” McPherson said in a short speech broadcast live by the American media.
Forensic scientists will be there “probably for several days,” the head of the investigation said.
Earlier, the Tampa FBI announced the discovery of “investigation-related items” on the Carlton Reserve near Sarasota. Laundry family lawyer Steven Bertolino told him the property belonged to the young man.
Brian Laundry’s parents visited the place Wednesday morning.
Excellent media coverage
Documenting her trip to the big outdoors in the US West on social media, Coffee Pettito went missing while traveling with her fianc in August, provoking great emotion and questioning the role played by Brian Laundry returning home alone in Florida.
According to the autopsy report, KP Petito was strangled.
Brian Laundry, 23, described as “a person interested in the investigation,” initially refused to answer police questions.
He finally disappeared and was missing for several weeks.
Brian was charged with fraud using a laundry bank card and was issued an arrest warrant by federal police.
A video released in September by police in Moab, Utah, added to the confusion over the young man’s personality.
“She’s annoying at times,” he specifically told agents, who were invited to the marriage dispute, while Coffee Petito appeared in tears in a car.
The announcement of these new components in the investigation was widely covered by U.S. television on Wednesday, which sent helicopters to film the search area.
The disappearance of KP Petito, then the hunt to find her boyfriend, was the subject of numerous media coverage, and a flood of publications on social networks, with Internet users trying to locate the woman.
As Brian Laundry disappeared, reports were given by Americans who believed Brian Laundry had been seen across the country.
The case’s extraordinary media coverage sparked controversy over the carelessness given to the disappearance of white women compared to minorities.
