Iceland suspended the Govt vaccine from the US laboratory Moderna on Friday, citing slightly increased risks of heart attack, which goes far beyond its northern neighbors, which have simply limited its use.

“Because the supply of Pfizer vaccine in the area (…) is adequate, the Chief Epidemiologist decided not to use the Modern vaccine in Iceland,” said a statement from the Health Directorate’s site.

This result encourages “an increase in the incidence of heart attack and pericarditis after vaccination with the moderna vaccine, in addition to vaccination with Pfizer / Bioendech”.

For two months, Iceland, a single-dose serum sold by Johnson & Johnson, an American laboratory, and two elderly and immunocompromised people were given an “almost exclusively” extra dose with the Moderna vaccine for Icelanders vaccinated by Johnson. Doses of another vaccine.

This will not affect the vaccination campaign on the vast North Atlantic island of 370,000 people, where 88% of people over the age of 12 are already fully vaccinated.

Since Thursday, Sweden and Finland have also stopped using the modern vaccine, but only for those under the age of 30, and Denmark and Norway have formally advised against those under the age of 18 for heart attack, inflammation of the heart muscle and pericardium. , The membrane covering the heart.

According to Swedish authorities, most of these swellings are mild and go away on their own, but medical advice is recommended if symptoms occur.
