Two people were killed Wednesday at Santiago’s international airport when an armored van from Miami was stopped to recover $32.5 million in cash, Chilean authorities said.
“The valuable cargo that arrived on the (company) Ladam flight from Miami was supposed to be handled by the Brinks company when the thieves broke out before being chased away by security agents,” said Eduardo Paisa, the lawyer in charge of the investigation. .

A dozen thieves arrived at the terminal at 07:30 local time (10:30 GMT) in three vehicles, according to authorities. They broke through a gate before reaching the area where the armored truck was to collect funds from the US. Surprised by the security agents, the criminals set fire to the two vehicles they came in and fled.
