The Orthodox rabbi of two universities in New York state, Columbia University and Barnard College, has sent a message advising Jewish students to leave their college campuses for safety reasons.
According to “Fox News”, anti-Israel agitators remained at the compounds. In a WhatsApp message sent to a few hundred people, Rabbi Eli Buchler shared his concern.
“The events of recent days have made it clear that Columbia University Public Safety and the New York Police Department cannot guarantee the safety of Jewish students in the face of extreme anti-Semitism and lawlessness,” he writes. It pains me to say that I strongly recommend that you return home as soon as possible and remain at home until the situation in and around the campus improves significantly.
“As Jews, it's not our job to keep ourselves safe, and no one should have to endure so much hatred,” he added.
Despite the police presence, anti-Israeli camps still exist on campus.
A video posted online showed demonstrators calling for Jewish students to return to Europe.
