Massachusetts native Mindy Kaling took the opportunity as host of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday night to defend Boston fans.
Speaking on stage at the United Center in Chicago, he said: famous actress I decided to combat the hate directed at the state — and especially its fans — by pointing out some of my favorite things about Boston.
“Guys, I can’t leave this place without giving a shout-out to the wonderful delegation from my home state of Massachusetts. I love you, Massachusetts. Everyone always hates us, but they don’t understand,” she said.

Kaling also noted the state’s interest in Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, as well as Ben Affleck’s split from estranged wife Jennifer Lopez.

Boston fans have been criticized by several NBA players over the past few seasons. In 2023, JayLen Brown said a portion of the fan base is “very toxic.” Former Boston guard Kyrie Irving said he was subjected to numerous insults during a playoff game in 2022. LeBron James even said Boston fans are “very racist.”
“They’ll say whatever they want to say,” James said in 2022.
