    It’s moving day in Valhalla.

Saturday at the PGA Championship begins with Xander Schauffele leading the field by one stroke. He has led the entire way so far, something that only five other golfers have accomplished in the last 40 years.

However, right behind him, there is a stampede of golfers ready to pounce on Louisville. Collin Morikawa shoots a rebound. Sahith Theegala made his way into the final group. Scottie Scheffler, despite being arrested, shot 66 on Friday and is at T4 to start the third round. Bryson DeChambeau is right with him too. We can keep going.

But Tiger Woods is not in this scramble. He dropped to 7-over after a rough start on Friday and was among those who missed the cut. The good news is that the weather is looking good after a long day of rain on Friday.

No matter how it turns out, moving day is sure to be eventful.

      Rory back at it?

Rory McIlroy is trying to get back into it. He just made three straight birdies to close out the front nine and four of his last six. He’s eight now and he’s doing the part.

      Scottie Scheffler slips back

Things are not going well for Scottie Scheffler today. He just hit it behind the fence on the fourth, then chipped his way to the green. He still saves Ghost, but now he’s five in a week.

    • Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 7:40 PM GMT+1

Thomas Detri had 0 Eagles this season entering the week. He now has 2, and is back to 10 under.

      Shane Lowry goes down

Shane Lowry takes full advantage of a moving day. He just shot a front-running 29 to get to 10 under for the week. Suddenly, he was just two away from the lead.

Shane Lowry birdied 29, his first under-30 nine-hole score at the PGA Championship in six years.

This is the seventh time this has happened at the PGA in the past 40 years.

      Collin Morikawa chip in

Well, that’s one way to make up for the early bogey. Collin Morikawa is just a shot away from the top spot again.

      Scottie Scheffler double, bogey

Well, that’s not a great start for Scottie Scheffler. He just doubled the second, bringing him to T14. Then he barely missed an equal chance in the third period.

Scheffler is now 3-3 for the day, putting him six shots back of Xander Schauffele.

Scottie Scheffler seems to work best coming straight off the field. It’s plus-3 to three today.

Eagle on the 18th by Patrick Reed! It is now below par for the day and at 4 below that for the week.

If that continues, it will be the lowest-scoring round ever at a PGA Championship.

The lowest single-round scoring average from the field at the PGA Championship is 69.25, in the final round in 2020 at TPC Harding Park.

Today’s field average is currently 67.8

Variations of these things are on the track again today in Valhalla.

    • Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 6:58 PM GMT+1

Everyone is attacking Valhalla today, but the last group made it three on the first hole. Xander Schauffele’s lead remains at 1

    • Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 6:34 PM GMT+1

The penultimate set was down, and Scottie Scheffler sent his ball straight down the middle.

    • Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 6:28 PM GMT+1

      Jordan Spieth’s first eagle

For the first time at the PGA Championship, Jordan Spieth has a double circle on his scorecard. He made an eagle on the par-5 seventh, putting him under par for the day at Valhalla.

      New Scotty Scheffler box

Scotty Scheffler’s regular caddy, Ted Scott, will not be in the bag today. Scott traveled home to attend his daughter’s high school graduation. This was planned well in advance. Schaeffler’s friend and PGA Tour chaplain Brad Payne will take his place today.

Xander Schauffele led after both rounds at the PGA Championship. However, historically, this is not the best sign for him.

Xander Schauffele is the sixth player in the last 40 years to take the lead after Rounds 1 and 2 at the PGA Championship.

Only one of the previous five — Brooks Koepka, who led by 7 — has won.

      We’ll finish the second round!

The second round is scheduled to resume at 9:40 a.m., and the third round will begin shortly after that once tournament organizers know exactly who will play where. The third round will be a duo start with groups of three men; It’s going to be a jam-packed training session today.

Fog delays the end of the second round and the beginning of the third round

As of 9 a.m. Saturday morning, we still haven’t finished the second round of the PGA Championship — there are still six groups on the course — and the third round has yet to begin. The fog has covered the entire course, and play can’t start until it lifts – you can’t play golf if you can’t find the ball, after all.

      Here’s the official PGA report:

Update: The resumption of the second round has been postponed until further notice due to heavy fog. The resumption will take place 30 minutes after conditions are available to play.

Round 3 start times will be a split start of 3 from the #1 and #10 tees from approximately 11:17 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.

“UPDATE: The resumption of the second round has been postponed until further notice due to heavy fog. The resumption will be 30 minutes after conditions allow for play. The start times for the third round will be a split start in groups of 3 from the #1 and #10 tees from 11: 17 a.m. to approximately 1:40 p.m.

The good news is that the weather looks stable for the rest of the weekend. So, while the course may be busy over the next couple of days, we should be able to finish the entire tournament on time. Knock on every piece of wood you find.
