Thousand Oaks, CA – Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers On Friday, coach Sean McVeigh said he will not play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers after missing training for the past two days for personal reasons.

McVeigh declined to go into detail about why Akers didn’t play, saying that the Rams are “working through a few different things with Cam”. When asked if he expects Akers to be part of the team going forward, McVay repeated, “We’re working through a few different things at the moment.”

After the Rams’ inaugural season loss to the Buffalo Bills, McVeigh told reporters he had a conversation with Akers about needing to play with greater urgency, noting why this pair-up discussion was “a result of my trust in him and of course.” The expectations we have and what we want him to be, which is nothing more than he is capable of.” Akers later said that the conversation took place during training camp.

Akers have 151 yards flowing and touchdowns on 51 holds this season. After scoring a goal against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 – his first since the 2020 season – he said he was excited because “everyone felt I missed a step or something, but I didn’t.”

McVay said Friday that Akers is physically fine. He reiterated that the rams “deal with things internally”.

“[This is] Kind of uncharted territory, and I think the biggest thing, out of respect for the situation, is the desire to keep it indoors.”

In Akers’ absence, McVeigh said the Rams are planning to rely on their backs Daryl Henderson Jr.And the Malcolm Brown And the Ronnie Rivers, who is on the coaching team. When asked if he expected the rams to add back in, McVeigh said, “I don’t know. I wouldn’t say no at all.”

“We will always explore options if we feel there are opportunities for promotion,” McVeigh added. “Maybe that’s not something up front.”
