ASHBURN, Virginia – The Washington captains have turned into a familiar face to help their young defensive ends be more productive, and have appointed Ryan Kerrigan as their new assistant defensive line coach.
Kerrigan will assist Jeff Zgonina, who was promoted to defensive line coach on August 9, the same day coach Ron Rivera fired Sam Mills third.
Kerrigan retired in July, ending his football career as Washington’s all-time leader. Help train the defense line during the bootcamp.
“It was great to see another end to football and help the other players,” Kerrigan said last week. “I really enjoyed it because you’re still in the game, and you’re still preparing for the match. You just don’t beat your body. It was a fun experience.”
Kerrigan will be tasked with helping the ends Montez sweat (21 functional bags in three years) and Chase Young Be more productive. Young will miss at least the first four games when he is physically unable to perform after undergoing knee surgery to repair a ruptured ACL and MCL in November. Young finished with 1.5 sacks in nine games last season.
Kerrigan played for Washington from 2011-20, scoring 95.5 sacks. He was named one of the 90 greatest players of all time in the franchise last week. Kerrigan played for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. He didn’t have a cyst during the season but had a 1.5 in the post season.
