“Proposers of such decisions have the illusion that they can somehow intimidate and subdue Russia: they will not succeed,” said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Rybkov.
“There will be no results, not the results they expect from these efforts,” he added.
On Wednesday, Mr. Biden declared that the United States would “strengthen its military position in Europe” so that NATO could “respond to threats from all directions and from all sides.”
He did not provide statistics on the US presence in Spain, Poland, Romania, the Baltic States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
The announcement, made in Madrid at the NATO summit, comes amid a crisis between Russia and the West since Russia launched a military offensive against Ukraine in late February.
“The security of countries where additional (US) groups are stationed will not be strengthened,” he said. Ryapkov said.
“What is happening now will undoubtedly lead to action on our part,” he added without elaborating.
