Google Play Points for Google Store Credit

    Long summary

    • As part of Pokémon GO Fest 2024, Play Points can be redeemed for physical items such as collar pins, handbags, and baseball caps.
    • The promotion allows Pokemon GO players to earn five times the regular points on purchases made over the weekend.
    • Availability of these physical items is certainly limited, and you shouldn’t expect this offer to last long.

Who doesn’t love getting something for free? Rewards programs that offer incentives for things you were planning to buy anyway feel like free money, and in 2019 Google launched its own program for Android apps in the form of Play Points. The more you spend on apps and in-app purchases, the more Play Points you earn. If you’ve got a pile of points and are looking for something to do with them, a new opportunity to spend points on physical products has just arrived.

Pokemon Go Bag is offered as a promotion for Play Points.

If showing off isn’t your style, the GO Fest 2024 promotion also lets you redeem points for special in-game encounters, and also includes the chance to earn five times your regular Play Points on in-app purchases made through Sunday.

Google clearly hasn’t forgotten about Play Points, and we still get new promotions like this from time to time, but the physical products you can redeem points for have been few and far between – the vast majority of redemption options are for in-app content, either the digital purchases themselves, or just coupons to save money on.

In the past, we’ve seen deals like the ability to get Google Store credit that you can use to buy something like a new Pixel phone. Last summer, we got some good deals like food delivery discounts, and even fun Google stuff like Chrome dinosaur socks, but those deals never seem to last. In that regard, this deal won’t last either, and Google says these Pokémon items are available while they last; at best, you have until the end of the month to order one. It might be best to try to get one now!
