The police officer involved in the death of George Floyd has been acquitted

A police officer convicted of killing George Floyd was released from prison on Tuesday, according to ABC News.

Thomas Lane was found guilty of “violating the civil rights” of African-Americans along with two other former Minneapolis police officers after a trial before a federal judge in 2022.

A 41-year-old man was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for his role in the May 2020 murder of George Floyd. Thomas Lane served his sentence at the Colorado Detention Center.

His colleagues, Alexander Kueng and Du Tao, were sentenced to three and three-and-a-half years in prison respectively.

“He paid his debt”

A spokeswoman for the Minnesota Department of Corrections said Thomas Lane has been released, but will remain on probation for the next year.

“Thomas Lane has served his sentence and paid his debt to society. I wish him well as he reintegrates into his community,” said Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.

Remember former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on George Floyd’s neck for nine minutes during his arrest. The 46-year-old victim indicated several times that she could not breathe before taking her last breath.

Derek Sawin was stabbed to death in a Phoenix prison last November. He was transferred to a Texas prison. The 48-year-old man is serving a 22-and-a-half-year sentence.
