Senator Marco Rubio, who wrote the bill, argued that “changing the clock is an outdated concept that causes frustration and confusion. This is just nonsense and there is no other way.”
On a hemicycle on Tuesday, the officer, selected from Florida, made a direct link between time changes and the increase in “heart attacks and car accidents”.
Daylight saving time “darkens our lives,” said Sheldon Whitehouse, state senator from Rhode Island on the east coast, where – with daylight saving time – December falls from 4:15 p.m.

However, the fate of this bill is uncertain: it must now be passed in the House and signed into law – Joe Biden – with the power to veto it. The president has not yet stated his position on the file.
The main idea behind the time change is to match the hours of operation and hours of sunlight to control the use of artificial lighting.
But its opponents condemn the negative effects on biological rhythms, especially in children.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the abandonment of winter time is also on the pipeline: the European Commission proposed to cancel it in September 2018 … in 2019. But the European Parliament voted in March 2019, postponing it to 2021. Since then, the Govt-19 crisis has occurred and the file is pending.
