A Laval resident caught two young thieves stealing cars in his neighborhood on his cameras and made an incredible arrest this weekend.
“We are very happy that they have finally been arrested. Our sunglasses were stolen last year [dans notre voiture]. It’s becoming an ongoing problem in the neighborhood,” he said Register The Laval resident who provided us with the videos.
The latter preferred to conceal his name for fear of reprisals. Its cameras captured the shocking scene of two youths being arrested and later handcuffed overnight from Friday to Saturday. Eliana Roberge, 20, and Cédric Picard-Ledoux, 21, were formally charged Saturday in a Laval court.
Legs on the neck
The amazing arrest took place around 4 am. In the videotape, we see two thugs trying to open the doors of cars on rue Benjamin-Constant in Laval. They went from one vehicle to another, with the doors open, and stole the items inside.
The problem is that a resident of this residential area fixed them on the spot. The Laval Police Department (SPL) confirms a 911 call was received at 4:09 a.m. to report them. After 15 minutes, the fun time is over.
“Police are canvassing the area and locating the suspect vehicle. They notice two people inside. Once police activated the patrol car’s flashing lights, the occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot,” said SPL Agent Erica Landry.
Like an action movie
A policeman immediately chased Eliana Roberge and eventually handcuffed her. In another video, residents are even seen leaving their homes to get a closer look at the chase that took on the look of an action movie in their residential area.
Meanwhile, according to the SPL, Cédric Picard-Ledoux was on the bench on the driver’s side of the car. In the video, another policeman is seen taking him out of the vehicle and restraining him to the ground within seconds.
“You are being held for investigation into thefts from vehicles,” begins the agent of the SPL seriously.
Authorities also say the vehicle the suspects were found in was reported stolen property.
Not their first prank
Eliana Roberge and Cédric Picard-Ledoux appeared in a Quebec court in Laval yesterday. They will return to court on July 15.
The two defendants are charged specifically with theft and concealment of less than $5,000, failure to comply with probation conditions and “possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.” According to the SPL, the weapon in question was a bear repeller.
Neither was his first escape. He was charged with theft and possession of stolen property in the Saint-Hyacinthe district earlier this year. Two 20-somethings also face charges of breaking and entering and breaching conditions.
They seem to prevail mainly in the districts of Laval, Saint-Hyacinthe and Longueville.
