Democrats have yet to update their platform

(Washington) Four days before the Democratic National Convention begins in Chicago, the plan proposed by the party still names the wrong candidate for president.

The Democratic Party — a document essentially outlining the policy goals and positions the party supports — has not been updated since a draft was released on July 13, eight days before President Joe Biden abandoned his re-election bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

The team responsible for creating the plan worked on it for more than a year, including giving key voices an opportunity to comment and make changes earlier this summer. But the agenda to be presented to the conference for the approval of the delegates, Mr. Biden hasn’t changed since before he left the race. As of now, the committee is not expected to meet to update the agenda until the conference begins on Monday.

Kamala Harris has not released a detailed list of her policy positions since winning the Democratic ticket, including some liberal positions she took during her first presidential campaign in 2020, including endorsing prohibition. on fracking.

At present, the positions of a party with a strong contribution of allies of the presidential candidate, among other things, do not provide an overview of his views on key issues, which set the political platform.

The site is not bound. However, some Democrats criticized Republicans for not being too transparent when endorsing their 16-page platform at last month’s Republican convention in Milwaukee.

“The Democratic Party platform will embody the values of our party and build on the historic achievements of Democrats during the Biden-Harris administration,” the Democratic National Committee said in a statement Thursday.

“The Platform Committee has worked diligently with stakeholders across our party to develop a bold and progressive agenda for the next four years, and the platform on which delegates will vote at the convention will reflect this process.”

Yet the July draft site says in its foreword: “President Biden, Vice President Harris and Democrats show up to get the job done” — which may not be true given that Joe Biden is no longer in the race.

Criticized the Republican Party

The Democrats’ proposed platform is 80 pages long and focuses on carefully explaining the differences between the Biden-Harris ticket and Donald Trump.

He called the former president and current Republican presidential candidate “focused not on opportunity and hope, but on vengeance and retribution; not on the American people, but on him.

She accused Donald Trump and his party of planning to “take away women’s basic freedoms, dictate what health care decisions they can make, ban books, tell people who they can love.”

Most of the site’s major findings support the work of the Biden administration. In the weeks since the launch of her presidential campaign, Kamala Harris has spoken publicly about her support for her colleague’s major causes.

This means that many of his views are reflected in the current draft platform – although the names of the candidates have not been changed.

The proposed Democrats call for continued green energy initiatives to restore abortion rights nationwide, create jobs, mitigate climate change, control electricity costs, and urge Congress to approve child care for low-income families and a path to U.S. citizenship. Those who have stayed in the country illegally for a long time.

He also says Israel’s right to defend itself is “ironclad” while endorsing the Biden administration’s efforts to negotiate a lasting cease-fire deal that could end fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
