    StudioCanal revealed on Thursday the acquisition of Ali Abbasi’s Cannes entry the Apprentice For the UK and Ireland, it is scheduled for release later this year. The film is an exploration of Donald Trump’s rise to power in America in the 1980s.

    Directed by Abbasi and written by Gabe Sherman, the film stars Emmy and Golden Globe nominee and Berlin Silver Bear winner Sebastian Stan. (Pam and Tommy) Like Trump, Emmys, Golden Globes and SAG Award winner Jeremy Strong (Succession) Like his controversial mentor Roy Cohn, Martin Donovan (Tenet) Such as Fred Trump Sr. and Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) Like Ivana Trump.

    the Apprentice It is a “dive into the depths of the American empire,” according to the plot description. “It charts the rise to power of a young Donald Trump through a Faustian bargain with the influential right-wing lawyer and political reformer Roy Cohn.”

    The film is produced by Daniel Beckerman for Scythia Films, Jacob Garrick for Profile Pictures, Ruth Tracy and Julian Ford for Tailored Films, and Abbasi and Louis Tesney for the Film Institute. Executive producers are Amy Bayer, Mark H. Rappaport, Emanuel Nunez, Josh Marks, Grant S. Johnson, Phil Hunt, Compton Ross, Thorsten Schumacher, Niamh Fagan, Gabe Sherman, Lee Broda, James Chaney, Andrew Frank, and Greg Denny.

    Rocket Science is handling international sales for the project, which has been funded by Kinematics, Head Gear Films, Screen Ireland, Film i Vast, the Danish Film Institute and the National Bank of Canada.
