Intel’s 14th and 13th Gen CPU instability issues are now starting to bother game developers, with the Alderon Games team revealing its own annoying experience using these chips.

Gaming instability issues on 14th and 13th generation Intel processors have created a new problem in the market, with consumers starting to opt for alternatives like AMD Ryzen.

Intel has not had a great time with the mainstream 14th and 13th Gen consumer CPUs on the market, and instability issues have bothered them a lot.

Our recent coverage detailed how Intel is now rejecting RMA requests for processors despite them meeting the terms and conditions, which is not good for the company’s reputation at all. On top of that, Intel’s CPUs are now significantly more prone to gaming bugs and crashes than competitors like AMD, which will not only jeopardize the company’s market share but could also impact future releases, like the Arrow Lake-S series.

Another incident that has come to light is the revelation of Intel’s instability issues. Diron gamesthe studio behind the dinosaur survival game Path of Titans. The studio’s founder, Matthew Cassels, says that despite implementing all the fixes Intel advised, the problem persists; here are the five main areas where CPUs are failing:

    • End customers: Thousands of crashes for 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs in our crash reporting tools.
    • Official Dedicated Game Servers: Experiencing constant downtime, which can take entire servers offline.
    • Development Team: Developers using these CPUs face frequent instability while building and working on the game. It can also cause SSD and memory corruption.
    • Game Server Providers: Hosting community servers that are experiencing constant downtime issues.
    • Shankarah tools: Stress and memory tests unrelated to Path of Titans also fail.

Interestingly, Alderon Games says it has seen a staggering 100% failure rate in its tests and that Intel CPUs degrade over time, significantly impacting performance. To mitigate the issue, Alderon Games has decided to switch to AMD for its entire servers, which, according to the company, “experiences 100 times fewer failures.” This is not good news for Intel at all; since the issue is now expanding to the professional segment of the market, Team Blue needs to come up with a solution immediately.

    • Server transfer: We are switching all of our servers to AMD, which has 100 times fewer failures than the faulty Intel CPUs.
    • Hosting recommendations: We advise anyone hosting Path of Titans servers or selling game servers to avoid purchasing or using 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs.
    • In-game notifications: We are adding an in-game popup message to inform users using these processors of the issue. Many users currently do not understand why their game is crashing and what they can do about it.

Apart from that, Alderon Games advises its users not to purchase Intel’s 14th and 13th Gen CPUs. To notify users of the issue, the company has decided to enable in-game notifications for the general public. Hopefully, Intel will come up with a solution as soon as possible, either in the form of a CPU recall or a mitigation that will put an end to the issue once and for all.
