Updated at 11.50pm in the UK: Tonight’s Summer Gaming Festival trailer confirmed New World: Aeternum, which will launch on October 15 and bring Amazon’s MMO to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S for the first time.

Also launching on PC, this will be an updated version of New World and its previous expansion Rise of the Angry Earth, as well as the game’s first large-scale PVP zone, a 10-player raid, end-game solo trials, an improved leveling experience and more. .

PC owners running Rise of the Angry Earth will receive the Aeternum Edition of New World as a free upgrade.

Original story at 10.30am UK:Something titled New World: Aeternum was observer on the PlayStation Store, setting tongues wagging ahead of tonight’s expected announcement.

Developed by Amazon Games, New World was originally released for PC in 2021, and has yet to make its way to consoles. The announcement of New World: Aeternum on PlayStation consoles certainly suggests that this may change soon.

An MMORPG set in a fantasy version of 17th-century America, New World initially arrived with something of a fanfare, and had nearly a million concurrent players shortly after its launch. Things have calmed down since then, with more modest players numbering in the thousands over the past couple of years – something that could now be revived with the console launch.

The addition of a subtitle, Aeternum, indicates that this is not the same version of New World that is currently on PC. It remains to be seen whether this is just a spin-off title for the console version (and whether it will also come to Xbox).

But it’s been a while since New World’s last expansion, and New World social media has teased something big that was announced tonight during the Summer Game Fest showcase. We may see Aeternum announced as an update to the base game on PC as well – as well as a new starting point for players new to consoles.
