Pete Davidson is stepping away from his semi-autobiographical comedy series “Bupkis.”

The Peacock show, which debuted in May 2023, was scheduled to debut this summer for a second season. Davidson issued a press release officially canceling the series entirely.

“I've always seen the movie Bupkis as a window into my life, because it's very personal and about my struggles and my family,” Davidson said. “After almost a decade of my personal life in the media, I wanted the opportunity to tell my story my way. Of all the work I have ever done, Bupkis is the one I am most proud of.

He continued, “I'm so grateful to Lorne Michaels, Broadway Video, Peacock, Universal Television, and the amazing actors and writers for helping me create something that's honest, funny, and heartfelt. I also feel like this part of my life is over. I'm so excited for this next chapter and to see you guys work. Thank you to everyone who supports me.” Because I am forever grateful.

for every Hollywood Reporter, Davidson's agent emailed Peacock to share the “SNL” alum's decision; However, production company Broadway Video was allegedly not informed until the statement was issued.

Davidson played a version of himself in the half-hour show that captured his family dynamics alongside his mother (Edie Falco), his eccentric grandfather (Joe Pesci), and his girlfriend (Chase Sue Wonders). Kenan Thompson, Charlie Day, Brad Garrett, Ray Romano, and Simon Rex also appear in the series. Season 2 was announced in June 2023 after the first season received strong reviews. Dave Cyrus served as showrunner, with Davidson and Judah Miller writing.

IndieWire's review raised questions about the show's relevance, with critic Proma Khosla saying: “Pete Davidson's character becomes a bit distracted. Because the show takes on its own life, it doesn't need to depend on itself and can be about someone else.” game By Pete Davidson. Ironically, this may not have been an option; Maybe it's a distraction to watch Pete Davidson play someone who has a lot in common with Pete Davidson – even when many of the actors do the same thing. “Bupkis” captures that anarchic fun while subtly introducing viewers to Davidson as an artist. His reputation shouldn't overshadow his career, at the very least they could start working together.
