Velma turned women — the character was confirmed to be a lesbian after years of fan theories — in a new animated movie called Scooby-Doo… and the LGBTQ+ crowd is all around him.
Velma’s sexual orientation is revealed in a new trailer from the animated movie “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!” That hit streaming services Tuesday. Velma is shown confronting a fashion designer named Coco Diablo… and she is instantly in love.
Blush sees Velma looking at Coco, her glasses rotting and romantic music playing. Velma also appears to admire other characteristics of Cocos beyond just her looks, including her fashion sensibility and intelligence.
Interestingly, Velma has been portrayed as straight in the past… with a rebooted version of the series showing her as having an affair with Shaggy, although it has been suggested by the showrunners that it was actually just a beard for her.

Of course, people are thrilled…including those in the gay and lesbian communities, who praise the clear portrayal and acting on screen.
FWIW, she appears to be Coco’s lesbian too – and she also seems to love Velma, and she called her “cute” in another scene where they show a little bit of affection and flirtation.

The fan base has always suspected that Velma is a lesbian – which, in fact, is It was mentioned as correct By some of the creators who have worked on Scooby projects over the years… including James Jennwho managed live and product adaptations Tony Cervone.
It’s unclear if OG writers and the folks at Hanna-Barbera saw it this way when they created the Velma Road in the 1960s, but the people responsible for it have now spoken out.
