Sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver has encountered face-hugging aliens and faced colonists on lush green planets, but never stormtroopers and galactic bounty hunters.

    So far.

Weaver is in talks to join the cast The Mandalorian and Groguthe first Star Wars film to go into production since 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Hollywood Reporter He confirmed it.

The Mandalorian Creator Jon Favreau is directing the film, which is expected to be filmed later this year. Favreau, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni will produce the film.

The Mandalorian Launched in November 2019 as the flagship show for Disney+, the character then known as Baby Yoda became a pop culture phenomenon. Pedro Pascal leads the series as Din Djarin, aka The Mandalorian, a warrior who takes a reluctant (at first) interest in Grogu. Pascal is expected to return as Darren, though it’s unclear in what capacity, as the actor has a full schedule. First, it will start shooting The Fabulous Four for Disney’s sister division Marvel Studios starting at the end of July.

Weaver, a three-time Oscar nominee, is perhaps best known as the old face of film alien The franchise, starting with Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic, then cementing its dizzying sensibilities with James Cameron’s 1986 sequel, Aliens. She starred in two more films after that. Her portrayal of monster fighter Mother Ripley established her as a groundbreaking, brilliant leader whose path other screen heroines have since followed.

She later reunited with Cameron for symbol picture films, symbol picture And Avatar: Water Road. More on the way.

Weaver also made another pop culture milestone with her appearance on Ghostbusters Movies in the eighties. She reprized the role of Dana Barrett in the 2021 reboot, Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

    She is repped by UTA.

The InSneider newsletter was the first to report Weaver’s involvement.
