“Midnight” just got even more exciting, however, as Taylor Swift revealed that she would be dropping four unreleased songs at midnight EST/9pm PT, the eve of the first night of her Eras tour. Three of the songs are part of Swift’s massive re-recording undertaking, and one is an unofficially released one that was written during the “Lover” era.
The singer announced her announcement Instagram story, writing, “In celebration of The Eras Tour, tonight I’m releasing four previously unreleased songs at Midnight.” Tracks include “Eyes Open (Taylor’s Version)”, “Safe & Sound (Ft. Joy Williams and John Paul White) (Taylor’s Version)”, “If This Was a Movie (Taylor’s Version)”, and “All of the Girls You I loved him before.”
“All of the Girls You’ve Loved Before” is an unreleased song that was considered for Swift’s 2019 album “Lover”. The song was leaked in February of this year, only to go viral on TikTok and meet fan requests to release it officially. As it was recorded after she left Big Machine for Republic Records, no re-recording was necessary, making it one of the four tracks not marked “Taylor’s Version”.
The track rollout includes two “Hunger Games” tracks that fans may have been worried about being orphaned in re-recording, given they never appeared on Swift’s album. “Safe & Sound” officially co-billed Civil Wars when it was first released in 2011; Since the two artists who made up this duo split up long ago, it appears that Williams and White have re-recorded their parts separately and will be charged for the remake as solo artists. That song and “Eyes Open” appeared on “The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12” and were released in December 2011 and March 2012, respectively.
If We Were A Movie, meanwhile, is preceded by a yet-to-be-announced deluxe edition of Swift’s “Speak Now,” which many fans expect will be the next re-recorded album the singer releases.
Swift’s Eras Tour kicks off Friday night in Glendale, Ariz.
