Google preview that a Number of new features Coming to Messages last month, but what isn’t flagged is a new photo picker that’s starting to show up for some users.
The current picker launched from the left of the text field shows a live camera with a shortcut to open your device’s Gallery next to it and the last photo in your camera roll below that. Swiping to the left lets you view another 22 photos, while you get a shortcut to quickly open the camera on the left.
as we are It was first enabled in SeptemberThe new UI still shows the viewfinder first but is a bit smaller, while you can now browse “folders” instantly with this shortcut shrinking as well. Your most recent shot gets the largest preview, while everything else is shown from three to a row.
As you scroll down, the pane gets larger and comfortably displays 15 images at a time. In the lower right corner, you get the FABs for the camera and folders.
So far we’ve only received one report on the new image picker in Google Messages. It did not appear on many of the devices we checked today. This is a good update that enhances the usability of a component that people interact with frequently. Being able to see the gallery view just by swiping up is a good use of today’s big (and tall) screens.
