    Kate Middleton's parents have thrown a “security blanket” around her and Prince William's three children after announcing she had cancer, a royal expert has shared.

    The Princess of Wales, 42, revealed on Friday that she is undergoing chemotherapy after doctors discovered the cancer during a planned abdominal surgery.

    While she copes with her health issues privately, her parents Michael, 74, and Carole Middleton, 69, provide her with a sense of comfort and stability when it comes to her children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince. Lewis, 5.

    They are also grandparents to Pippa's children: Arthur, 5, Grace, 3, and Rose, 1.

    “They will rally around her, especially her young family,” said royal commentator and biographer Duncan Larcombe He said to the mirror. “Carol and Michael will basically throw a safety blanket around the little ones to help protect them.”

    Larcombe added that Michael and Carole are also supportive of William, who they consider their “adopted son”.

    Larcombe said both Michael and Carole were “deeply upset” about their eldest daughter’s diagnosis.

    While Middleton's parents don't reveal details about their private lives, the princess's mother has previously spoken about being a grandmother, saying that she will always play an active role when it comes to her grandchildren.

    The couple are based in Berkshire, England, just a 40-minute drive from Windsor.

    The couple now have more time to see their grandchildren after selling their nearly 40-year-old party supplies company, which Middleton's mother founded in 1987.

    For their part, Middleton and William left Adelaide's home in Windsor via helicopter over the weekend to head to Anmer Hall, located on the Sandringham estate, with their children for the Easter holiday.

    It's not clear if Michael and Carole will join them.
