For a short while, LEGO Fortnite seemed to be very popular. Mixing Lego with survival mechanics has worked wonders and brought a whole new player base to the free-to-play online battle royale game. But today, Epic announced LEGO sets, which are new buildings that you'll be able to create and add to your village.

However, fan reception to the announcement hasn't been entirely enthusiastic, as these new kits – which will be introduced to the Item Shop this weekend – will cost V-Bucks.

V-Bucks are Fortnite's in-game currency that you can only get if you purchase them directly with real money or by getting a Free Pass or Battle Pass. And By completing levels and objectives. Buying them directly is certainly much faster. And locking in brand new content behind a cash component in a game played by all ages has never looked good.

Three of the sets announced today cost between 1,900 and 2,500 V-Bucks. 1000 V-Bucks cost about $8.99, and if you want all three of these sets, it will cost you about $44.00.

The sets look really cool too, focusing on the seaside houses (7 buildings, 44 items), the burger bar (3 buildings, 41 items), and the Lion Knights' castle (10 buildings, 64 items). So it's a real shame.

Many Fortnite players responded to the announcement expressing their disappointment with Epic's decision to close it behind a paywall, with some responses even expressing concerns about “content drying up” and problems making new content purchasable.

The LEGO Fortnite subreddit also objected to the decision, with many users pointing out the high prices and monetization.

The first two LEGO sets will drop in the Item Shop this weekend, with the Castle set arriving on March 16.
