There is at least one version of an Eagles quarterback offside that we haven’t seen in 2022.

    Among them was Fletcher Cox.

Eagles head coach Nick Siriani hinted at the Combine that there was a version of the play that involved Cox. The next day, center Jason Kelsey was able to ask Siriani why the Eagles didn’t run him on New Heights Podcast.

“You know why? That’s a good question,” Siriani said. “Because we did this with (Darius) Slay last year. We had a play. Why put a man on the defensive? Well, the same reason Kansas City does its thing where they roll around. it is fun.

“So we had Slay in one last year and he had one where he did a few different things. We had him in a couple of times. But they go over edits and this and that, and sometimes it’s hard to predict when they’ll do that. And so I remember it was a hectic moment for us. Like , “Slay! slaughter! slaughter!’ And he came running. They are not ready to enter. They don’t stand there with the other poles that aren’t inside. So we were very concerned about that.”

This QB sneak with Cox was the kind of push… with Cox pushing Jalen Hurts. There was so much talk about the NFL on this year’s set that the league might try to ban a rugby-like game.

But it’s not like every team is going to be as successful on the play as the Eagles, who have played well on the offensive line, strong quarterbacks like the Hurts and a team that has really mastered the style behind it. Adding Cox to the play as a pusher would be fun.

“I still remember when we repeated it the first time,” said Kelsey. “He pushed Jalen even before he got the ball. He was so excited to do it.”

Siriani replied: “That’s another reason (we didn’t play it).”

Kelsey then marveled at Cox’s grip strength, saying that Cox is one of only two players who has noticed a significant difference in grip strength in the NFL. The other was former Packers Pro Bowler Clay Matthews.

Sirianni said Cox’s version of the QB sneak was on their mind all regular season but they never made it, and then it wasn’t a priority in the playoffs. But Cox always made sure she was in that week’s game plan, according to Siriani.

“I think at the Super Bowl, I just lied to him,” Ciriani joked. “Yes, it is there.” We are good. “

The Eagles were great at sneaking QBs last season but they were even more proud of the wrinkle they came out of. And now that Cox is back for the 2023 season, don’t rule out this sneaky version just yet.
