The camera blackout issue on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ is frustrating users

On the new Galaxy S23 series, only the Galaxy S23 Ultra has received upgrades to the rear camera setup. The Galaxy S23 and S23+ feature the same setup as the Galaxy S22 and S22+, but this time the photos from the main rear camera seem to have a blurry issue that frustrates many users.

The 50MP rear camera on the Galaxy S23 and S23+ seems to have trouble keeping the entire scene in focus. Users report that while the center of the scene looks as sharp and focused as you’d expect, images are blurry on the sides and edges. The issue appears to affect Galaxy S23 and S23+ units manufactured in Vietnam – we were able to replicate the issue with document images and text but not otherwise, and our units are manufactured in India.
Here are some examples people have collected Diary:

Country of origin and manufacture are not usually an issue when it comes to camera quality, so this may just be an issue affecting some units and not others. In fact, according to some users, this was an issue on the Galaxy S22 series as well but it was not reported at the time, and sending the phone in for repair seemed to be the only way to fix the problem.

We’ve reached out to Samsung for more details on this issue and will update this article when we hear back. For now, we’d suggest waiting for the official info from Samsung before taking any further steps (and to get around the blur issue, try focusing manually by tapping the screen before taking a photo).
